Overheard vs Meetily
Meetily and Overheard are both MIT-licensed, record your computer's audio instead of sending a bot, and can transcribe entirely on your machine. Meetily runs on Windows, Mac and Linux and keeps its advanced features in a paid Pro edition. Overheard is Mac-only, and everything it does is in the free app.
you're on Windows or Linux, want summaries from a local model through Ollama, or want a project with a large community.
you're on a Mac and want speaker labels, automatic meeting detection and Claude integration without paying for Pro.

Where Meetily is better
Windows and Linux. If you're not on a Mac, this is the end of the comparison: Overheard is built on macOS-only APIs and won't follow you there.
Fully local summaries with any model. Meetily talks to Ollama out of the box, so you can pick any local model for summaries. Overheard's local option is Apple Intelligence (macOS 26 with Apple Intelligence on); otherwise it uses the Claude Code or Codex CLI you already have.
Community and templates. Meetily has a large, active community and offers custom summary templates in Pro. Overheard is younger and smaller.
Where Overheard is better
The good parts are free. Speaker labels, starting on its own when a call begins, chat across your meetings and the MCP server for Claude are all in the free, open-source app. In Meetily, diarization, auto-detect and MCP are Pro features.
Made for the Mac. Overheard is a native Swift menu bar app. It records system audio with Core Audio process taps — no virtual driver — survives AirPods connecting mid-call, and is signed and notarized by Apple. (We wrote up how the recording works.)
Answerable from Claude. Claude Code, Claude Desktop and Codex can search every meeting and quote the minute something was said; a Claude Code plugin adds recap, follow-up and to-do commands. See Ask Claude about your meetings.
